Revalidation & renewal
We grant registration for four years at a time.
Practitioners then must prove they are still fit to practise, if
they are to stay on the register for a further four
years.
We have developed clear and
straightforward
revalidation
procedures, based on the application requirements.
Annual returns
Every year as they reach the
anniversary of their registration, registrants
must
renew their
registration. We ask them to submit an
annual
registration return form, which records their
professional activity during the past year. This covers things such
as the number of cases completed and any relevant additional
training.
Fitness to practise
The annual registration returns
and revalidation form require registrants to declare any reason why
we might not consider them fit to practise. As before, we consider
each declaration of an adverse nature on an individual basis. The
information may not necessarily constitute a barrier to remaining
on the register.
Case log
The revalidation form contains a case log like the one in the
application form. Our
assessors choose one or
more cases to examine in detail. They then assess these against
the
essential
elements for the specialty, taking the annual returns
into account too.
References
We only request new references if the
registrant has changed their employer since they first applied. We
want to be sure that there was no adverse reason why this
happened.
