Road transport investigation
Sub-specialites: Collision investigation, Vehicle examination,
Vehicle crime examination
Collision investigators specialise in the
detailed investigation of a road incident, applying scientific
principles to determine how and why it occurred. They identify,
record, recover and interpret the available evidence, applying
their findings to reconstruct the incident where possible.
Vehicle examiners specialise in the technical
examination of a vehicle, or part of a vehicle, to determine its
condition. This may concern the vehicle's roadworthiness,
modifications made to it and/or its involvement in an incident or
crime.
Vehicle crime examiners use
specialist mechanical and engineering knowledge to identify if a
vehicle has been stolen or if an attempt has been made to disguise
the true identity of a vehicle or vehicle parts.

distinguish between
the investigative stages in this specialty and the evaluative
stage, which forms the specialty

Incident evaluation under the

Sector.
