Sub-specialties: None

Forensic archaeologists are concerned with finding and recovering buried remains.

In looking for these archaeologists are able to work within a search team, advising on appropriate methods or sequences of methods for searching. They use specific archaeological search skills such as field craft, geophysical survey, etc as appropriate.

In attending a scene where buried remains have been discovered (for example, at a building site), or where there is considered to be a clandestine grave, forensic archaeologists can devise, implement and lead a strategy for investigation that will maximise the available buried evidence. Forensic archaeologists support pathologists in the excavation of a body and apply archaeological skills and recording techniques to assist the enquiry.
