Specialties

This section of the website is devoted to helping you understand the different forensic specialties on the register.

In this section you will find:

  • Short descriptions of each specialty to which the register is open;
  • Details about specialties coming soon to the register.
  • Application packs - In this section it is possible to download an application form and all the relevant documents that will guide you through the application process.

Please click here for more about how we distinguish between specialties or for a full list of the specialty descriptors download the Forensic Specialties document.

If you are applying for registration, please study our definitions and then apply in the specialties or subspecialties which correspond closest to your work. As these are not job descriptions, what you do could be broader or narrower than our definitions. But you must be working along these lines if you are to apply. If you are not sure whether your work fits into our specialties, please contact us for assistance.

If you already hold CRFP registration in your main specialty and apply for registration in an additional specialty, you will be asked to revalidate in all your registered specialties on the third anniversary of your first registered specialty. This means that you will have been registered for a shorter period in your additional specialty. Your assessor will not normally ask you to provide as much casework as in your main specialty.
