Lead assessors

For each specialty there is at least one lead assessor. They oversee the assessment process and co-ordinate the work of the specialty assessors. Most of our lead assessors are still practising in their discipline but some have moved into more managerial roles. Lead assessors do not need to be registered with us, but many of them are.

Each lead assessor has a team of specialty assessors. We send a copy of your application to the lead assessor for your specialty. They then assign a suitable member of their team of specialty assessors to carry out the assessment.

The lead assessor will receive all the paperwork back from the specialty assessor after the assessment. They will then perform either an informal check or a formal internal verification. They formally verify the recommendation of every tenth assessment from each specialty assessor, to ensure that they are continuing to be fair and consistent.
If satisfied, the lead assessor will support the specialty assessor's recommendation and return the application to the office.

Lead assessors can claim a fee of £40 from us for every internal verification they perform.
